James Corden isn’t sure he deserves an OBE.
The 36-year-old star was honoured with an Excellent Order of the British Empire for his services to drama in Queen Elizabeth’s New Year’s Honours list and while he is "proud" to have been named as a recipient, he thinks there are plenty of others who would be far more worthy of such acclaim.
Speaking at the ‘Into The Woods’ premiere in central London, he told BANG Showbiz: "I haven’t got my OBE yet. It’s just been announced, I haven’t got it. I’m genuinely honoured and proud.
"It’s a strange thing when you’re told you’re going to get something like that. You’re aware of how many people deserve it more than you do and you wonder whether you deserve it, and I don’t know whether I do.
"But I’m honoured that someone somewhere thinks that I might."
James is already planning to take his mum and dad to the investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace but he isn’t expecting the queen to know who he is.
Speaking to Magic Radio’s Jo Parkerson, he added: "I think the queen will probably ask me, ‘Who are you?’ … I don’t know! I’ve not given it any thought but I will take my parents. My mum’s already fretting about what to wear."
The actor-and-comedian’s latest role sees him appear in a star-studded cast in musical fantasy film ‘Into the Woods’ and he particularly enjoyed acting alongside Meryl Streep in the movie because the Hollywood actress made him feel "at ease" during filming.
He said: "She’s so aware of how you feel when she walks into the room, that she really does everything she can to put you at ease.
"It makes her just the best person to work with. There are so many people in her position that could really start to abuse that position on a film set and she just couldn’t be further away from that.
"I loved every single minute of working with her on this. It was something I’ll never ever forget and will cherish forever."
