James Corden ‘amazed’ by Jamie Redknapp’s record-breaking spirit

James Corden was "amazed" that Jamie Redknapp carried on filming ‘A League of Their Own’ after breaking his wrist on the show.
The 40-year-old TV presenter watched on as show panellist Romesh Ranganathan dropped a football on the former England star from 120ft while he was trying to break a keepie-uppie record, leaving the ex-Liverpool midfielder with a fractured wrist – and James was impressed by Jamie’s pain threshold.
He said: "What’s amazing is that he thinks he’s just sprained it and he carries on, breaks the record, goes to hospital, gets a scan, gets a cast, comes back and does the show.
"It goes against everything you have ever heard about Jamie Redknapp.
"Some of his Liverpool teammates must be going, ‘Where was that spirit before?’
"It’s that weird thing, Fred’s got it too, when you start something, like trying to break a record, you’re not going to let anything beat you."
James credits ‘A League of Their Own’ with kick-starting his TV presenting career, because he had never read an autocue before hosting the sports-based quiz show.
Speaking to The Sun’s Bizarre TV column, he added: "This show taught me how to host things.
"I remember when we did the pilot and I’d never sat at a desk and read an autocue before – and now that’s a huge part of my day every day."
Since starting on ‘A League of Their Own’ – which also features cricketer Freddie Flintoff – in 2010, James has gone on to become a big success in the US, and now fronts ‘The Late Late Show’.
