Jake Wood hopes Max Branning didn’t kill Lucy Beale

‘EastEnders’ actor Jake Wood hopes Max Branning didn’t kill Lucy Beale as he doesn’t want to lose his job.

The 42-year-old star’s character is one of the main suspects in the case because he was having an affair with the blonde beauty when she was murdered last year but Jake has confessed he hopes he isn’t unveiled as her killer in Friday’s (20.02.15) live episode as he loves his job on the BBC One soap.

He shared: "I had a few theories at first, but now I’m just confused. I thought it was Abi Branning, then I thought it was Max, then I was convinced it was Ian Beale.

"That’s the beauty. Everyone’s got a motive. It would be interesting if it was Max. But if it is, potentially I’d be out of a job, so I’ll have to have a conversation with the boss at a later date. I could be a fugitive. I could be filming scenes from Cuba or something."

The former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ contestant went on to admit that while he doesn’t have "a clue" who murdered Lucy (Hetti Bywater), revealing he tells friends and family Dot Branning (June Brown) did it to get them off his back, he doesn’t think Max could ever kill someone.

Jake told The Sun newspaper: "Personally I don’t think Max would be capable of it, but you just don’t know the circumstances of what could have driven him to it. It could be manslaughter. The people I speak to don’t think Max is capable of murder. He’s capable of a lot of things, lying, cheating, but not murder."

The father-of-two feels proud to be involved in one of the biggest soap stories in history, which is being played out in live and semi-live episodes this week to mark the 30th anniversary of ‘EastEnders’.

In last night’s (17.02.15) episode Max was seen accusing his daughter Abi (Lorna Fitzgerald) of being the killer saying, "She [Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa)] knows you killed Lucy".
