Jake Wood cares for chickens rescued from a battery farm

Jake Wood spends his spare time looking after chickens rescued from a battery farm.
The 47-year-old actor – who is best-known for playing Max Branning in ‘EastEnders’ – has revealed he loves looking after chickens and he even brings in eggs to share with his soap co-stars.
Jake said: "I’ve started to bring loads of eggs into work for the cast members as we’ve got so many.
"They’re getting rave reports. Once you have a real, proper egg, it’s totally different from any you buy in the shop."
Jake currently has four chickens and he revealed they’re "laying like you wouldn’t believe".
He told Chicken & Egg magazine: "We’ve lost two, but the remaining four are really healthy and completely transformed.
"They’re really happy chickens. They come running when I go out, looking for food. They’re laying like you wouldn’t believe."
Meanwhile, Jake recently revealed ‘EastEnders’ only has enough episodes to stay on screen until June.
BBC bosses have already reduced the soap to two pre-recorded episodes per week amid the coronavirus pandemic – but Jake warned that ‘EastEnders’ could disappear from the schedule altogether by the start of summer if filming doesn’t resume.
The actor – who first appeared on the soap back in 2006 – said: "Beyond that, I really don’t know what’s going to happen."
‘EastEnders’ suspended filming in March due to the threat of the pandemic.
