Jake Shears says Masked Singer was ‘physically’ tough

Jake Shears says performing on ‘The Masked Singer’ was "physically" tough.
The Scissor Sisters frontman – who was unveiled as the Unicorn on the ITV singing competition on Saturday night (01.02.2020) – has warned celebrities hoping to take part in the next series to get fit before signing up as he found it "very difficult" performing in the costume.
Speaking to the Daily Star newspaper, he said: "If I had known six months before I was going to be doing this, I would have been training my butt off.
"Physically, I found it really difficult. It felt like trying to perform inside a diving bell suit on the bottom of the ocean. You can’t really see, hear or touch anything because you’re totally covered."
Jake, 41, was axed from the show when he found himself in the bottom three with Duck and Fox during a double unmasking.
After Fox won the judges vote – which featured Jonathan Ross, Rita Ora, Davina McCall and this week’s guest panellists, Sharon and Kelly Osbourne – Jake took off his mask alongside Duck who was revealed as Skin from the rock band Skunk Anasie.
The 52-year-old musician admitted she also struggled to shake her tail feathers in her huge yellow costume.
Agreeing with the ‘I Don’t Feel Like Dancin” singer, Skin added: "Trying to dance was madness! When you’re dressed as a giant duck, there are many songs that just don’t work, so there was a lot of trial and error!"
The ‘Hedonism (Just Because You Feel Good)’ star explained she signed up for the show to try "something completely different" and out of her comfort zone.
She said: "I just wanted to do something completely different and over the top and be like completely someone I wouldn’t normally be. It’s been really challenging and really hard. And just major fun as well."
