J.K. Simmons: I’ll carry on as Commissioner Gordon

J.K. Simmons will continue to play Commissioner James Gordon after his debut in the role in ‘Justice League: Part One’.
The 61-year-old Oscar winning actor has teased he’ll play Batman’s Gotham Police ally – who was last brought to life by Gary Oldman in ‘The Dark Knight’ trilogy – for subsequent movies in the DC Comics cinematic universe, including the standalone ‘Batman’ to be written and directed by Ben Affleck.
He said: "A lot of really wonderful actors have played that character previously … so, I can’t say that I don’t have some impression of that character in my head that’s based on what I saw, but I’m not planning on going back and watching any of the other films. I’m just planning on learning as much as I can about him through the comics and getting my feet wet in the first movie, and then hopefully continuing on from there."
‘Justice League: Part One’ – which sees Affleck, Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot reprise their roles as Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman respectively – has begun principle photography and is scheduled for release in 2017, which gives Simmons plenty of time to prepare for the role.
Speaking about his interpretation of the character, he told website Collider: "My understanding, from what I’ve learned so far about Commissioner Gordon, is that he’s the older guy with the moustache who relates with our hero in a certain way. Other than that, it’s a vastly different character and much more of a stronger, impactful character in the DC universe."
