Incredibles sequel will go in ‘some new directions’

‘The Incredibles’ sequel will go in "some new directions".
Director Brad Bird – who won an Oscar on the back of the original movie – has revealed progress is finally being made on a much-anticipated sequel to the Pixar classic, which hit cinema screens in 2004.
The award-winning director said: "I don’t like unwrapping presents before Christmas."
However, Brad did confirm the people behind the sequel have already made significant progress in the production process, with the movie scheduled for a 2019 release.
Brad told Entertainment Weekly: "It’s very actively moving, and we’re excited about it. [We’re] trying to take it in some new directions."
The original ‘Incredibles’ movie starred the likes of Samuel L. Jackson and Holly Hunter, and is widely considered to be one of the best computer-animated superhero films of all time.
The release of ‘The Incredibles’ was met with high critical acclaim and the movie was ultimately handed two Academy Awards.
Brad’s remarks come shortly after Pixar recently revealed it is planning on releasing an original film every year.
The animation studio – which is part of The Walt Disney Company – has made a creative decision to focus on bringing new characters to life on the big screen even though some of its best-loved movies are new instalments in existing franchises.
Company President Jim Morris said: "Most studios jump on doing a sequel as soon as they have a successful film, but our business model is a filmmaker model, and we don’t make a sequel unless the director of the original film has an idea that they like and are willing to go forward on.
"A sequel in some regards is even harder than the original because you’ve got this defined world which, on the one hand, is a leg up, and on the other hand has expectations that you can’t disappoint on. Our plan had been to make an original every year and a sequel every other year, if the idea came forth to do it."
