‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’ is getting its own theme park.
The popular ITV reality show is set to be reimagined in the form of a theme park in Salford, as the broadcaster is working on an indoor visitor attraction, complete with replicas of Base Camp, Croc Creek and Snake Rock.
‘I’m A Celebrity… Jungle Challenge’ will offer "a multi-sensory adrenaline adventure", and while visitors won’t be forced to come into contact with the same live animals and insects that the celebrities in the real jungle do, ITV have said they are working out how creepy crawlies will be incorporated into the experience for the more adventurous fans who want to tackle some infamous Bushtucker Trials.
James Penfold, Controller of Partnerships for ITV said in a statement: "It brings together the heart and soul of the hugely celebrated series, and ITV’s expertise in curating fantastic, memorable live brand experiences as a great example of our More than TV strategy."
The theme park experience will be packed into a 90-minute "action package challenge", and will feature zipwires, parachute drops, and climbing walls, with visitors battling to collect the famous yellow stars that signify meals for camp in the show.
‘I’m A Celebrity… Jungle Challenge’ has partnered with a member of the ‘I’m A Celeb’ team who helps create the games for the series, to make sure the trials visitors take part in are as close to the real thing as possible.
William van Rest, ITV’s director of games, live and merchandising, said: "It’s inspired by the show, and we’re trying to create a jungle as closely as we can. Some of the games within I’m A Celebrity are things like treetop challenges, and one of the team who helps create the games for I’m A Celebrity is helping us with this."
‘I’m A Celebrity… Jungle Challenge’ will be part of the new Watergardens development next to the Lowry Outlet Mall in Salford, Greater Manchester.
It joins other projects in ITV’s More than TV strategy, which includes tours of its ‘Coronation Street’ and ‘Emmerdale’ sets, and its daytime studios at Television Centre in London.
There is also a ‘Ninja Warrior’ themed aqua park near Windsor, and ‘Ninja Warrior’ family adventure centres in Stoke and Wigan.
