Idris Elba in talks to join Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur

Idris Elba is in talks to join the cast of ‘King Arthur’.

The 41-year-old actor is believed to have entered into negotiations with Warner Bros to play a wizard-like figure and mentor to Arthur in the retelling of the medieval legend.

The film – which also has Guy Ritchie attached to direct – will be written by Joby Harold and produced by Akiva Goldsman and Tory Tunnell.

It is believed casting directors are set to offer Elba the role imminently, while test offers for the role of Arthur will be sent out to actors in the first week of August.

Meanwhile, the ‘Luther’ star – who is set to appear in ‘No Good Deed’ opposite Taraji P. Henson , ‘The Gunman’ with Sean Penn and will voice Shere Khan in Disney’s remake of ‘The Jungle Book’ – recently directed a short film for a track produced by Dutch DJ R3hab.

The actor chose to work on the promo for the song ‘Unstoppable’, featuring Eva Simons, to tackle the topic of bullying through a six-minute video, set in the 1970s, which features a group of teenagers on a school bus, outlining ‘the nerd’, ‘the lads’ and the popular girls, who are all in different social circles.

Idris, who has also achieved success as a DJ, said: "When I first heard the song I really loved the idea of being unstoppable … it’s self belief, its someone that just says, ‘Guess what? I can do anything I want to do’."
