Idina Menzel to star in Beaches remake

Idina Menzel will star in the remake of ‘Beaches’.
The ‘Let It Go’ singer has signed up to take on the role of CC Bloom in TV network Lifetime’s contemporary re-imagining of the 1988 tearjerker.
Following the news, Idina tweeted: "Can’t wait to start shooting."
One fan wrote: "We are so excited for the news! Can’t wait to see you in Beaches," while another added: "A huge congratulations to you @idinamenzel xoxo."
The original film starred Bette Midler as CC and Barbara Hershey as her posh friend Hilary Whitney.
The pair meet on the Venice boardwalk when they are 11 years old and despite their different upbringing and statuses, they enjoy a lifelong friendship, which faces many ups and downs.
CC is an aspiring singer trying to make it in Hollywood while Hilary is the daughter of a prominent civil rights lawyer who struggles to find her own destiny.
The film had a memorable soundtrack with Bette singing her classic songs, ‘Wind Beneath My Wings’ and ‘The Glory Of Love’.
Idina will perform those tracks as well as some new numbers, as they give Garry Marshall’s classic a modern spin.
It is not yet known who will take on the role of Hilary, but the remake is set to premiere next year.
Speaking about the impact ‘Beaches’ had, Bette, 70, has previously said: "My God, it seems like such a long time ago. People still talk about it. It’s either the worst chick flick or the best chick flick. Nothing in between."
