Ice Cube: I’m a ‘firm but fair’ father

Ice Cube is a "firm but fair" father.
The ‘It Was A Good Day’ rapper – who has three sons, O’Shea Jackson Jr., 25, Darrel and Shareef, both 20, and two daughters, Karima, 22 and Deja with his wife Kimberly Woodruff – has a lot of "respect" for his children.
He told Total Film magazine: "I’m firm but fair. I respect my kids and I think a lot of people need to take that approach. It’s not a dictatorship at all times.
"You’ve got to realise your kids are their own individual human beings. Just because they’re little, it doesn’t mean they don’t have the same feelings as adults do. A wise person told me: Be good to your kids because you’re going to be old one day and you’ll want them to be good to you. So keep that in mind."
Meanwhile, the 46-year-old rapper previously insisted it is incredibly important to be honest with your children.
He shared: "I think you should be honest with your kids. They shouldn’t hear something in the street that they should have heard from you.
"I always wanted them to be able to talk to me about anything and feel like I wasn’t going to jump into the daddy mode and scold them for being real. I knew I wanted to bring them up unsheltered and not naive to the world."
And Ice Cube is happy to practice what he preaches.
He added: "My wife and I have talked about these stories his whole life, so he’s heard versions of it. I think it was just about actually putting the dialogue in front of him.
"Whenever they were able to catch something, grab something, I was there to explain it to them and to give it context. I knew it wasn’t right to try and hide anything and that they would lose a little trust in me if they thought I didn’t think they could handle it."
