Ross Adams feared he’d be booted from ‘Hollyoaks’ when Stephanie Davis was sacked.
The actor was cast as Scott Drinkwell, the cousin of Stephanie’s Sinead O’Connor, not long before the 23-year-old star was terminated with immediate effect after warnings of lateness and turning up to work drunk.
He said: "When she left the show there was a part of me that thought, ‘Am I still going to be needed?’ Getting axed did run through my head, I did think it could happen.
"Brian, my boss, had a meeting with me and re-assured me [of my future] and I think I needed that. He said the writers have plenty for me to do once Steph had left. A situation that could have been awful for me … I was very lucky and I really appreciate what work did for me. It could have been very different."
And Ross is feeling confident that his close pal – who is expecting a baby boy with her on again off again partner Jeremy McConnell – has "turned everything around" and is "in a good place".
He added to The Sun Online: "I seen her last week, the day she found out she was having a boy, and it was nice to see she’s doing well and is in a good place. I think she’s turned everything around and I do hope it continues."
Stephanie recently revealed she is expecting a baby boy.
She said at the time: "I actually always thought I was having a boy. My mum, best friend, brother, aunt and two cousins came with me to the appointment and as soon as the sonographer told us what I was having, they burst into tears. I didn’t cry though, I just sat there in shock, staring at the screen. The baby looked so lifelike."
