Hollyoaks: Joe McGann teases more manipulation with Edward Hutchinson’s brain tumour secret

Joe McGann has warned that Edward Hutchinson will manipulate his daughter to keep her silent over his brain tumour secret.
The ‘Hollyoaks’ actor – whose alter ego has lied to his son Tony (Nick Pickard) about his illness – explained his character will go further with his cruel plot as Verity (Eva O’Hara) threatens to reveal the truth.
Speaking to Digital Spy, Joe said: "He believes in his own abilities. Some of his scheming is not planned. Some of it he comes up with very quickly and then he lives with the consequences.
"Between Edward and Verity, there’s a very touching scene we did, where we go back over the crash that killed her mother. He reminds her of how much he loved her mother and that he saved Verity’s life.
"That’s very much marking somebody’s card – saying: ‘You shouldn’t tell the truth about me, because you owe me’. He reckons he’s got Verity in control and reckons everyone else is less smart than him."
The 61-year-old soap star dismissed the idea Edward – who wants to win back Tony’s wife Diane (Alex Fletcher) and will soon move back into the Hutchinsons’ flat – will turn into a "killer", unless something drastic happens.
He added: "Edward has been sailing very close to the wind with this, but he’s very confident that he’ll get out of it. It’d be disastrous for Edward to get found out, but he thinks he’ll get away with it.
"With the operation, it was about power. In that sphere and that theatre, he was all-powerful and in control.
"I don’t think he’s trying to kill Tony at the moment – I don’t think that’s the idea. Something would have to downturn in Edward’s life before he became a killer, but he’s got all the tools at his disposal, being at the hospital."
