Helen George didn’t "expect" teenagers to like ‘Call the Midwife’
The 30-year-old actress – who plays feisty Trixie Franklin in the 50s drama – gets a lot of fan mail from young people interested in following her on-screen career path and she admits she and show bosses didn’t expect the programme to appeal to such a group.
She said: "What’s interesting is that we seem to have a younger fan base too. I’ve got letters from 13 and 14-year-old girls who love the show and are interested in midwifery.
"So it’s good that midwifery has been brought to the forefront.
"They’re interested in how we work with the community and the relationships between all the girls. I don’t think we were expecting to capture that sort of audience straight away."
Helen believes part of the appeal of the show is the strong bond between the cast members.
Asked what she thinks the show’s appeal is, she told OK! magazine: "It’s an ensemble piece. I hope one of the reasons that it’s been such a success is that there’s a chemistry between all of us and I hope that comes across on screen. I think that this series is going to be the best."
