Heartbreak ahead for Coronation Street’s Gemma Winter

There is heartbreak in store for ‘Coronation Street’s Gemma Winter as she battles post-natal depression.
The bubbly character – played by Dolly Rose Campbell – will struggle to cope with looking after her quadruplets but show bosses have insisted that Gemma will ultimately recover, thanks to the help of her mother Bernie (Jane Hazlegrove).
Showrunner Iain MacLeod told Digital Spy: "Ultimately the Gemma story will be heartbreaking and will draw in her mother Bernie, who becomes slightly her saviour really.
"I know Bernie has been nothing but a troublemaker for a lot of this, but I think this is her chance to redeem herself for some of the misdeeds she committed .
"She’s there, right by Gemma’s side. She was the first to spot the severity of the problems that Gemma is going through. She’s a rock for Gemma really, to use that old cliche! There’s loads of great stuff to come for those two."
And although Gemma will be "somewhat changed" by the post-natal depression, MacLeod insisted that she will make a full recovery.
He explained: "We wanted to tell a story with some positivity, so ultimately Gemma will come out the other side of this somewhat changed with what she’s been through emotionally, but with a new level of appreciation and love for her mum, and obviously will go on to become a fantastic mum to those quads in her own inimitable way."
Meanwhile, back in March it was revealed that ‘Coronation Street’ sparked Ofcom complaints over Gemma’s horrifying dream sequence, in which she woke up to hear one of her quadruplets Aled crying, and took him downstairs.
She then put the baby in the washing machine, before waking from her nightmare with Aled nowhere to be seen, although he was downstairs with Chesney Brown (Sam Aston)
According to The Sun Online, four people complained to the broadcasting regulator about the content, with others complaining on social media.
On viewer tweeted: "Even though it was a dream on a soap, that washing machine incident was f***ing disgusting on #CoronationStreet Whoever gave the okay to that scene needs to be jailed!"
A different fan wrote: "Did Gemma really just dream she put the baby in the oven? That’s a bit dark even for me #Corrie."
Another added: "#coronationstreet reallly??? Gemma dreaming she put the baby in the oven?? Not the best or appropriate idea is it.. (sic)"
