Gwyneth Paltrow ‘wasn’t ready’ for Brad Pitt

Gwyneth Paltrow’s late father was "devastated" when she split from Brad Pitt.

The ‘Mortdecai’ actress, who ended her engagement to the ‘Fury’ star in 1997 after almost three years of dating, admits Bruce Paltrow treated her ex-fiancé like a son but she believes he was "too good" for her.

The 42-year-old beauty told Howard Stern’s SiriusXM radio show: "I definitely fell in love with him. He was so gorgeous and sweet. I mean, he was Brad Pitt!

"My father was devastated. I was such a kid, I was 22 when we met. It’s taken me until 40 to get my head out of my a**. You can’t make that decision when you’re 22 years old… I wasn’t ready, and he was too good for me.

"I didn’t know what I was doing."

The Oscar winner, who split from Chris Martin last March after 10 years of marriage, insists she and Brad, who is now married to Angelina Jolie, are still friendly even though she previously admitted their painful break-up affected her for five years.

She said: "If I see him, we’re friendly. I don’t hang out with him."

Following their split, the ‘Iron Man’ star went on to date Ben Affleck for three years until 2000, but admits she got "swept up" by his good looks.

She said: "He was not in a good place in his life to have a girlfriend.

"I think that when you’re in your twenties, you can get swept up in [good looks]. When you’re a kid, you tend to be more shallow and you’re also immature, so you think that being with a good looking person validates yourself in some kind of way. It’s not true."
