Gwen Stefani wants Christmas number 1

Gwen Stefani’s dream is to have a number one Christmas single that is popular every year like Mariah Carey.
The 48-year-old beauty released festive LP ‘You Make It Feel Like Christmas’ in October, and has revealed her aspiration to be able to live off the one song each year like Mariah does with ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’, the 1994 single which she wrote and produced with Walter Afanasieff, that is played around the world every year.
Gwen said: "As a songwriter, that’s the ultimate dream.
"The idea of having a song that repeats every year.
"I mean, every year Mariah Carey is like, ‘Here I am again!
I’m back! Even if I don’t have a record out this year, I’m back at Christmas!’
"That was the idea – I was going to get the basketball and try to score a basket."
The ‘Sweet Escape’ hitmaker says she’s going to have the "best Christmas ever" this year as she has been in the festive spirit since Spring, when she started making the Yule Tide record.
The ‘What You Waiting For’ singer has enjoyed witnessing the "magical connection" the tracks have with her fans, especially the album-titled duet with her boyfriend Blake Shelton.
She told the BBC: "You never know with any music if it’s going to connect.
"But this record, so far, has been kind of magical.
"It’s probably going to be my favourite Christmas I’ve ever had – and it’s been going on since April!"
Gwen – who has sons Kingston, 11, Zuma, nine, and three-year-old Apollo with British ex-husband Gavin Rossdale – made a rare appearance in the UK, where she hasn’t performed in a decade, at the Westfield London Christmas light switch on last week, where she shared how getting to record a Christmas album was like being in a "snowglobe".
Speaking before her performance, she said: "It was like being in a snowglobe the whole time. I just had this little place to have fun and make music. Over the years, anyone who has listen to my music, I am just so grateful to be here and sharing my story through music has been incredible, but to make memories of Christmas through writing music…"
