Guns N’ Roses’ Axl Rose announces graphic novel

Axl Rose is releasing the graphic novel Axl Rose: Appetite for Destruction.

Sharing a name with his band Guns N’ Roses’ seminal 1987 album, the tale is described as a “raw neon-noir fever dream, park rock anthem, part cyberpunk prophecy”.

Those were the words of record label Sumerian’s co-founder Nathan Yocum, who has co-written the story with the Welcome to the Jungle rocker.

He continued: “Axl and I built a world where rebellion isn’t just attitude, it’s survival. It’s Axl like you’ve never seen him before, on the front lines of a battle for humanity’s future.”

The blurb reads: “Set in a neon-drenched Paradise City where humans and robots are meant to co-exist, Appetite for Destruction follows Axl Rose, a half-human, half-robot who lives on the fringes, and finds solace in the music of a back-alley lounge singer.

“When she vanishes under mysterious circumstances, Axl’s search for answers drags him into a deadly conspiracy, one that could decide the fate of humanity itself.”

The art is by Italian comic book artist Frank Mazzoli.

The 106-page hardback is due to ship early next year, with various upgrades available.

Earlier this year, Guns N’ Roses parted ways with longtime drummer Frank Ferrer, who was behind the kit for the heavy rock band for almost two decades.

Isaac Carpenter — who is drummer for AWOLNATION — has been touring with them since.

Ferrer first joined the November Rain band during a show in June 2006, replacing Bryan Mantia. Ferrer’s last show was on November 2023.

Guns N’ Roses posted a heartfelt farewell to Ferrer and insisted his exit was “amicable”.

The announcement read: “The band thanks Frank for his friendship, creativity and sturdy presence over the past 19 years, and wish him success in the next chapter of his musical journey.”

The band’s lineup now consists of frontman Axl, Slash, Duff McKagan, Dizzy Reed, Richard Fortus, Melissa Reese, and Carpenter.

The percussionist has been a member of AWOLNATION since 2014. He previously worked with McKagan’s band called Loaded, Adam Lambert, and Gosling, previously known as Loudermilk, which Carpenter co-founded in 1995.

The decision received some backlash from fans, who were hoping to see the return of former Guns N’ Roses drummers Matt Sorum or Steve Adler.

Guns N’ Roses’ 2025 world tour began May 23 in Saudi Arabia. The run has included a stop at London’s Wembley Stadium on June 26, their first headline gig there since 1992, and Birmingham’s Villa Park on June 23.

The tour resumes on Wednesday (01.10.25) with the South American leg kicking off in San José, Costa Rica.
