Gregory Finnegan: Hollyoaks fans are in for ‘wild ride’ in 2020

Gregory Finnegan says it is going to be a "wild ride" on ‘Hollyoaks’ leading up to December 2020, after the forthcoming flash forward episode airs.
The Channel 4 soap are to show an ambitious episode next month which will zoom 12 months into the future so viewers can see what some of the characters are up to on December 31st 2020, and the 39-year-old star – who plays James Nightingale – is "excited" after finding out what James’ son Romeo Quinn (Owen Warner) is going to be doing next year.
He told BANG Showbiz: "I’m not directly one of the flash forward-ers.
"But Romeo is and I know what he’s getting up to, so presumably that is going to impact pretty heavily on James as well.
"I’m excited in that I know what he’s doing.
"How we get to that point is going to be a wild ride."
Gregory also praised the show for taking on the challenge of the special episode, and admits it will add "a bit of excitement" for viewers.
He said: "It’s a really good device. I like it in a lot of shows.
"It gives another element to the storytelling where you can do things you wouldn’t ordinarily be able to do, and I think it adds a bit of excitement.
"So it should be good."
Gregory recently admitted he is hoping some former ‘Hollyoaks’ viewers could return to the soap follow its recent success, which has seen the show scoop Best Soap at the British Soap Awards and the Inside Soap Awards this year.
He said: "It’s been a good year. It’s been surprising, I think for everyone concerned.
"We felt like we’d had a good year but for that to be recognised at various award shows is great.
"We’ve lost out a lot of times, so to start winning a few is lovely.
"I hope they’re coming back, if they did leave the show at any point, and seeing that we are doing good work that is up there with all the other soaps.
"It’s not just a 6.30pm kids show. It can be for everyone.
"We’re at top of our game and hopefully that will continue."
