Gogglebox gets teen version

A teenage version of ‘Gogglebox’ is set to hit television screens next month.
E4 bosses have been given the go-ahead to create a reality TV show aimed at young adults as they watch people of a similar age view viral videos on their phones and tablets, as well as TV shows but, although it’s scheduled to air in June, they’ve run into a problem as they’re still trying to come up with a name for the programme.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "A teen version of ‘Gogglebox’ has been a big priority for Channel 4 and Studio Lambert for a while now, especially after the success of kid spinoff ‘Gogglesprogs’, so they’re delighted it’s finally happening.
"But it’s not been without challenges. The name has caused a right dilemma. ‘Gogglebox’ is such a beloved brand that viewers should come flocking, but it’s known for being a show that your mum and dad sit down and watch on a Friday night – which is not exactly appealing to teens. It’s been tricky to figure out."
The show is currently being developed under the working title of ‘Goggleteens’, but producers are in the process of trying to get it changed to ‘Screen Time’.
Meanwhile, the success of ‘Gogglebox’ has meant bosses have had to come down harder on the cast and in a bid to keep it "normal", they’ve banned the stars – including the likes of the Michael family, Leon and June Bernicoff, and Stephen Webb and Chris Steed – from attending showbiz parties or messaging one another.
A source said: "Channel 4 knows the show works because it’s normal families watching TV in their homes. They don’t want so-called celebrities on it."
The show has previously lost cast members including George Gilbey and his family and Scarlett Moffatt – who won the recent series of ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ – and her parents after they featured on other reality shows.
The report comes after it was recently thought ‘Googlebox’ stars Steph and Dom Parker were being eyed by ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ bosses for the new series.
