Georgia May Foote blasts TV bosses for shunning northern actors

Georgia May Foote has blasted TV bosses for not using more northerners for roles.

The 29-year-old actress – who played Katy Armstrong in ‘Coronation Street’ – has admitted she can’t understand why northerners continue to be overlooked for TV parts.

Georgia – who was born in Bury, Greater Manchester – said on Twitter: "Why are northern actors not asked to play northern parts? The accent is really difficult if you’re not from here.

"A neutral accent is something northerners have always had to do to get work. Now our accent is more popular why are we not getting the jobs when it is required (sic)"

The former soap star insisted she wasn’t pointing her finger at anyone in particular.

But Georgia admitted to being annoyed at constantly hearing dodgy northern accents on TV.

She shared: "Trying to watch what should be a good series, but completely put off with an accent. I see and hear this soooo much!

"I’m not calling out one show in particular either guys. It happen ALOT (sic)"

Georgia recently confessed to feeling "unhappy" after gaining weight during lockdown.

The actress also revealed she was "living out of boxes" after her and boyfriend Kris Evans’ house move "fell through".

She wrote on Instagram: "*Isolation Realness* My allergic reaction is back around my eye, still no idea why it happens. Kris can’t sleep past 4am so i find him on the couch most mornings. I still haven’t been on a run even though i have said i will for the last week. I feel like i have gained weight and it is making me unhappy. Our house move is stalled so i’m living out of boxes. I’m hearing people i know are getting Covid. This is all just very odd.

"All i can think is soon, if we all listen, this will be over as fast as it began. (sic)"
