‘The Monuments Men’ star reportedly spent thousands of pounds to protect his new riverside home in Sonning Eye, Oxford from flooding.
Last week, George purchased the Georgian mansion – which is located right next to the River Thames – as a wedding present for his new wife, Amal Alamuddin.
But despite spending an estimated £5 million on the luxurious property, the Hollywood actor had to fork out an extra £50,000 on a new pumping system and emergency sandbags in case it floods.
According to The Sun of Sunday newspaper, a source shared: "George and Amal were caught seemingly unaware."
Once the property is water-tight, it is reported that they will split their time between the Oxfordshire home and George’s mansion in Lake Como, Italy.
The couple spent a week in their new English home as part of their honeymoon, after they got married in an extravagant wedding ceremony in Venice on Saturday, September 27.
However, the famous couple had to interrupt their romantic getaway because George had to attend a Comic Con event in New York to promote his new film, ‘Tomorrowland’.
He joked to the crowd: "It is not lost on me that I’m spending my honeymoon at Comic Con!"
