Gemma Chan says Crazy Rich Asians is a landmark moment

Gemma Chan thinks the success of ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ represents a landmark moment in Hollywood.
The 35-year-old actress – who parents previously moved from Hong Kong to Britain – has admitted she felt emotional watching her culture being depicted on screen.
Gemma – who stars as Astrid in the romantic comedy – told the Evening Standard newspaper: "I remember just even a few years ago this film would have felt implausible, impossible.
"I felt really emotional the first time I watched it because it’s the first time I’ve seen faces that look like my grandma, my granddad, my mum and dad.
"It was really, really emotional seeing the food that my family ate when we were younger and seeing it on screen for the first time. I feel more optimistic that things can change and shift."
Meanwhile, Gemma’s ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ co-star Constance Wu recently admitted she doesn’t "think anything through".
The actress has developed a reputation for being outspoken on a number of issues concerning the Asian-American community and the film business in general.
She said: "I don’t think anything through. I am very impulsive and reactive. I have always been a person who is kind of outspoken, but nobody knew who I was before.
"Now I have this weird thing called fame, and I wasn’t looking for it, I didn’t ask for it, but if you have it, you might as well use it for something good. And the best thing I think I can do is help amplify the voices of people who don’t feel heard."
