Gemma Atkinson to return to Casualty

Gemma Atkinson would be "open" to a return to ‘Casualty’ in the near future.
The 32-year-old actress is currently enjoying her time in ‘Emmerdale’, in which she portrays Carly Hope, but she has admitted that she’d consider reprising her role as paramedic Tamzin Bayle in the medical drama providing the script was "good" enough.
Speaking exclusively to BANG Showbiz, the blonde beauty explained: "I would never say never with any job. I think if I were to go back to ‘Casualty’, I would go back as Tamzin because another character wouldn’t fit in with it. I absolutely loved it but it was in Cardiff so it was a bit of a commute but I’d definitely be open to it. If it works and it’s a good script then I’m always interested in things like that."
However, for now, Gemma is focusing her attention on the long-running ITV soap and has teased that her alter-ego Carly and her boyfriend Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) have more drama coming their way as the loss of her son Billy – who died at two months old from sudden infant death syndrome – continues to plague her life.
Gemma explained: "They’ve just moved in together but it’s not going to be a smooth roll for them. As everything with ‘Emmerdale’, nothing is good for a long time as nothing is bad for a long time. We’re going to revisit the cot death again with Billy that Carly experienced. That’s going to be brought back around. It’s basically affected her more than she what she thought. She hasn’t dealt with the grief and things that go wrong between herself and Marlon as a result of Billy. The next few weeks are all about Carly coming to terms with it. It was brought up and then went away again. They genuinely do love each other and they’ve both been through turmoil relationships and they’ve finally found one that works. We’re fighting and anchoring to keep it working."
As well as juggling her acting career, Gemma is also hosting Key 103 with Mike Toolan and Matt Haslam weekdays from 6-10am. www.key103.co.uk
