Gavin Rossdale thinks being English makes him pessimistic

Gavin Rossdale thinks he’s an eternal pessimist because he’s English.
The London-born musician is currently starring alongside Sir Tom Jones, Jennifer Hudson and will.i.am on ‘The Voice’ and is "loving" the experience, but he has admitted he doesn’t know whether he’ll return to the ITV programme in 2018.
Gavin, 51 – whose band Bush are much better known in the US than in the UK – said: "Unfortunately like all the best things in life it’s not really up to me.
"So I don’t know. I think they’re happy with me… but it’s not my decision. If they asked me, then yeah I’d love it. I’ve found it really enjoyable."
In fact, Gavin thought he was the victim of a prank when he was initially asked to star on the show.
Asked why that was his assumption, the rock star told RadioTimes.com: "Because I’m English, and I never think anything good is going to happen to me.
"I mean, for all my non-success in England, I can’t stop all my blood being English and all my aptitude and all my outlooks being English."
Meanwhile, Gavin also opened up about his relationship with Sir Tom, saying the Welshman is "very paternal" towards him.
Gavin said: "I’m just learning so much from him. I think he feels very paternal towards me, like I’m a chip off the block.
"I’m not anywhere near his status but I simply just sing for a living, I gave my life to music, and he relates to that and respects that. He’s probably one of the greatest people I’ve ever met."
He also criticised the BBC’s decision to axe Sir Tom from the programme last year, before ‘The Voice’ moved to ITV and he was rehired.
Gavin said, simply: "You know, people make mistakes."
