Gary Oldman had to relearn English accent

Gary Oldman had to relearn his English accent.

The 55-year-old actor – who was born in London – admits he’s been living in the US for so long that he had to hire a voice coach to help him with the British dialect for his role in ‘Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy’.

Speaking on the UK’s ‘The Graham Norton Show’, which airs tonight (07.02.14), he said: "I have lived in America for so long, my kids are American and that’s what I hear around me every day and occasionally weird sounds that I don’t notice slip in. I had to brush up my English."

Meanwhile, Oldman recently admitted he was charmed into accepting the part of Dr. Dennett Norton in the ‘Robocop’ remake by the director José Padilha.

He told BANG Showbiz earlier this week: "This film wasn’t on my list of things to do but I came in and I read it and I thought it was fun, and I like José the director, he was a charmer."

Oldman also insists they are significant differences between the new film and the original 1987 version, directed by Paul Verhoeven.

He added: "I saw the original when it came out. I haven’t seen it since. It was more of a horror I remember – it was more violent and had more gore than ours."
