Gary Numan’s singer daughter Raven Numan eyes Ariana Grande duet

Gary Numan’s daughter Raven Numan wants to work with Ariana Grande.

The ‘Cars’ hitmaker’s 21-year-old daughter has launched her own music career and she has revealed the ‘Thank U, Next’ hitmaker is at the top of her wish-list of artist she’d like to work with – alongside her dad’s pals in industrial rock outfit Nine Inch Nails – even though her music is not the same genre.

The alt-pop star told Blitzed Magazine: “I’d like to work with Nine Inch Nails, and Ariana Grande, because she’s been a huge part of my life since I was 10. I love her.”

However, it was Katy Perry who inspired her to want to write her own music, following in the footsteps of her synth-pop pioneer father – whose hits include ‘Are “Friends” Electric?’ and ‘Cars’.

She said: “I didn’t really have any interest in it until I was about nine or ten when I saw a Katy Perry documentary. She’s the one that got me into all of this, the singing business. So about 11 or 12 years ago I would write my own songs, and I still have a stack of paper with lyrics on them. I keep everything. Some of them are actually kind of good!”

Whenever Raven is going through challenges in her life, she turns to songwriting.

Speaking about her first singles, she said: “If I have a negative experience, when something bad happens, if I’m feeling overwhelmed or if I’ve had a lot of anxiety, the one thing I do is sit down and just get it all out on a piece of paper. That’s normally how I start. I just type it or write it down and then l’ll go to my piano or guitar. I’ll start to create some sort of melody around the lyrics, and then try and fit them in. But it really does depend. Sometimes I’ll write the music first. I know for a couple of my songs, ‘My Reflection’ and ‘Here For Me’, I wrote the music first and then I wrote the lyrics. When songwriting, l’d say piano is the easiest. Guitar is easy for me as well, but piano is just so simple, but it does also depend on the type of mood or vibe I’m going for.”
