Gareth Edwards was ‘dreaming’ throughout Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Gareth Edwards felt like he was "dreaming" for the whole two years he was working on ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’.
The 41-year-old director is devastated filming for the forthcoming sci-fi flick has come to an end as it means he can no longer pretend he’s standing on the fictional planet Yavin, but is thrilled he was given the opportunity to work on the action film as it’s something he’s longed to do since he was a "five-year-old kid" in his ‘Star Wars’-themed pajamas.
Speaking to Heyuguys.com at the premiere of the upcoming release, Edwards said: "I don’t know if I’m part of the ‘Star Wars’ universe. You sort of get to play in it for two years and then you’ve got to go home back to England. I’d love to stay!
"That’s the heartbreaking thing about coming to the end is that I can’t go back to Yavin anymore or be on the Death Star and so it was kind of a dream come true to be honest.
"Everyone dreams of being part of ‘Star Wars’ and I got to make one. I keep expecting to wake up and being a five year old kid in my ‘Star Wars’ pajamas and it was all a dream."
Although it was the first time he’s jumped on board the ‘Star Wars’ franchise, Edwards thoroughly enjoyed the "rollercoaster" of emotions he experienced while putting together the space opera film and the memories will stick with him forever.
He explained: "Everything was fun. It was like a whole rollercoaster ride of this film. You have this greatest moment of your life and then it’s really stressful so it’s a complete mixed bag of emotions. There were many moments."
‘Rogue One’, which stars Felicity Jones and Diego Luna, follows a group of unlikely heroes as they group together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star – the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction.
