Friday Night Dinner to return in May

‘Friday Night Dinner’ will return for its fifth season next month.
The Channel 4 sitcom – which focuses on the eccentric Goodman family and their sit-down meal at the end of every week – will be back on May 4, with Simon Bird, Tamsin Greig, Paul Ritter, Tom Rosenthal and Mark Heap returning for the new series.
In the upcoming run, the parents buy a hot tub – with Adam (Simon) and Jonny (Tom) less than impressed – while Dad (Paul) gets obsessed with his own, creepy, ventriloquist dummy.
Jim (Mark) goes on a date from hell, Adam’s car accidentally sets on fire, he gets constant prank calls from Jonny, Mum (Tamsin) organises her own surprise party and Grandma (Frances Cuka) returns.
‘The Inbetweeners’ star Simon – who played Will in the school sitcom – has joked about the show’s return.
He said: "I’m looking forward to six more weeks of eating squirrel, ingesting so much salt that I develop chronically high blood pressure, and humouring an oddball who seems to be pathologically afraid of his own dog.
"I can’t wait to reunite with my old friends Tamsin Greig, Paul Ritter and Mark Heap. And Tom Rosenthal will be on set also."
Writer and producer Robert Popper joked: "I’m thrilled to be making a fifth series, and to be taking the show in a completely new, and radical direction.
"’Friday Night Dinner’ five will be shot entirely in black and white, with the family now living and working on a barge in the North Sea. In addition, all actors will have their voices pitch-shifted three octaves higher, with the exception of Mark Wahlberg, whose voice remains the same."
