Felicity Jones’ screaming delight at BAFTA nod

Felicity Jones "ran around her hotel room screaming" when she found out she was up for a Leading Actress BAFTA.

The 31-year-old star discovered she had been nominated for the prestigious award for her portrayal of Stephen Hawking’s first wife, Jane Wilde Hawking, in ‘The Theory of Everything’ at midnight as she is currently in Los Angeles ahead of the Golden Globes on Sunday (11.01.15), and she was amazed by the news.

She is quoted by the BBC as saying: "I’ve been running round my hotel room screaming.

"It’s midnight here. We’re just about to go to bed, but we’ve all been emailing each other and exclaiming with excitement.

"I’m looking forward to celebrating with a glass of champagne and Skyping my family."

The brunette beauty faces stiff competition from Gone Girl’s Rosamund Pike, Reese Witherspoon (‘Wild’), Julianne Moore (‘Still Alice’) and Amy Adams (‘Big Eyes’), but she is just happy to have got a nod in such a strong category.

She added: "I feel very lucky to be in such remarkable company. I’ve watched those performances and I feel like they’re very exciting for women in film because they are all revolutionary performances."

Felicity’s co-star Eddie Redmayne, who plays Stephen Hawking in the movie, is up for the Leading Actor prize, and he paid tribute to the film’s director James Marsh for the success of the movie, which received 10 nominations.

He said: "James Marsh our director got such an amazing group of people. It was a passion project for everyone so the fact it has been nominated for so many things is a testament to him."

Eddie’s competition in the category includes Benedict Cumberbatch for his main role in ‘The Imitation Game’, but he insists there is no rivalry between the pair.

The 33-year-old star said: "He’s an old friend. We’ve known each other for about 10 years now.

"He is the most magnificent actor. I’ve seen ‘Imitation Game’ and he is brilliant in it."

Ralph Fiennes – who won his first BAFTA in 1994 – is also up for the prize for his portrayal of concierge Monsieur Gustave H in ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’, which received the most nominations with 11, and, like Felicity, he is also looking forward to toasting the nod with some fizz.

He said in a statement: "I’m delighted of course. Dom Perignon all around for guests and staff at The Grand Budapest Hotel. And a free sample of Eau de Panache too, darling."

Mark Ruffalo received a nod in the Supporting Actor category for ‘Foxcatcher’, along with his co-star Steve Carell, Edward Norton (‘Birdman’), Ethan Hawke (‘Boyhood’) and J.K. Simmons (‘Whiplash’), and he is "honoured" to have been recognised.

He wrote on Twitter: "Thank you @BAFTA for the wonderful distinction of a nomination for @FoxcatcherUK I am honored. (sic)"

Stephen Fry and Sam Claflin announced the EE British Academy Film Awards nominations this morning (09.01.15), and the TV host will also present the ceremony on February 8 at the Royal Opera House in London’s Covent Garden.

The event will be broadcast exclusively on BBC One and BBC One HD, preceded by a red carpet show on BBC Three.
