Felicity Jones charmed by ‘intimate side’ of Stephen Hawking’s life

Felicity Jones only discovered "the intimate side" of Stephen Hawking’s life after she agreed to star in ‘The Theory of Everything’.

The new movie, which also features Eddie Redmayne, tells the story of Professor Hawking’s relationship with Jane Wilde and his battle against motor neuron disease.

Speaking at the UK premiere of the new film in central London, Felicity told BANG Showbiz that she was touched by the story, explaining: "I obviously knew the story of Stephen Hawking, because he’s such an incredible icon. I felt like I knew him really well, even though I didn’t know the intimate side of his life.

"But it was only when I read the script that I realised about this phenomenal relationship that he and Jane Hawking had, and the relationship with [Jane’s second husband] Jonathan Jones."

Jane and Stephen were married between 1965 and 1995, and their love story is the focal point of the new film, which also stars Emily Watson and Charlie Cox.

Meanwhile, Eddie – who plays the Professor in the new film – claimed recently that he was "incredibly flirtatious" when he visited the set of ‘The Theory of Everything’.

Eddie said he was in awe of the Professor’s charm and wit when he was introduced to Felicity, who plays his ex-wife.

The 32-year-old star said: "It’s amazing, the aura he has. You’re so used to how he looks – the silhouette and the voice – and I was really nervous. I just waffled – talking about him, to him. It was pretty embarrassing. Felicity came in and they got on like a house on fire. Stephen was incredibly flirtatious. A complete player."
