Fantastic Four cast blast ‘unwarranted hate’

Miles Teller and Kate Mara have blasted the "unwarranted hate" the new ‘Fantastic Four’ cast received.

The two actors have revealed that they got a lot of "negative" criticism when they – along with Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Bell – were announced as the stars taking over from the roles made famous by Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, Ioan Gruffudd and Michael Chiklis.

Kate said: "I was very surprised at first, before any trailers were out, how negative people were without seeing anything."

Miles added: "That is true. A lot of just unwarranted hate…"

However, the stars added that the public perception switched once the trailer for the film coming out this month was released.

Speaking to MTV, Kate said: "Then that very quickly changed, when we actually showed some footage. So that was a nice thing."

Michael also revealed why he and the rest of the cast decided to take on the already-famous roles, explaining that it was director Josh Trank’s vision for the decidedly darker ‘Fantastic Four’ film that hooked him.

He said: "I just knew he wanted to do something completely different. Tonally he wanted it to be more grounded, a little more gritty, a little darker.

"Just wanted to… not erase the thought, but change people’s perception of the ‘Fantastic Four,’ based upon previous tries."
