Emmerdale’s young ‘divas’

‘Emmerdale’ star Chris Chittell says the child actors correct their senior co-stars if they get their lines wrong.
The Dales veteran – who has portrayed Eric Pollard since 1986 – says the youngsters on set are not afraid of "chipping in" to let older stars know if they are having issues recalling their lines, and his co-star Lesley Dunlop (Brenda Walker) joked some of the child stars are becoming divas.
He said: "If you get it wrong, they chip in and start telling you what your line is."
She added: "Someone piped up on set recently, ‘How long is this scene going to go on for?’
"I turned around and it was a child who was not more than knee high. He was like, ‘Oh come on.’ "
Former ‘Where the Heart Is’ star Lesley also joked that some of the cast quip they have become whiners.
She is quoted by the Daily Star as saying: "We sometimes laugh that we are a whinge of actors. The tea’s cold. Sometimes we have a moan."
Last year, Chris insisted ‘Emmerdale’ were beating their soap rivals to accolades because they are producing comical moments amid their harder hitting storylines.
He said: "We’re doing wonders – we are producing material people like.
"Most crucially we have humour. And humour is a lot harder to deliver than drama. That’s what seems to be going down well for us at the moment."
However, Chris caused controversy last month when he referred to the soap’s child grooming storyline – in which teacher Maya Stepney (Louisa Clein) grew close to Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) – as a "young man’s dream".
He tweeted: "Come on, it’s a young man’s dream. Okay okay I know, behave et bloody cetra (sic)"
