Emmerdale’s Sophie Powles saved man’s life

‘Emmerdale’s Sophie Powles saved a man’s life while she was travelling Indonesia with her boyfriend last year.
The 27-year-old actress turned her back on the soap at the end of 2012 in order to go travelling with her lover Mark and, as well as her incredible acting ability, the blonde beauty has proved she’s also a dab hand when it comes to medical emergencies.
She explained: "Where we were, there were no shops, no electricity or medical assistance and the only boat visited once a week. A guy staying with us split his head open – and infection is rife there, so it was a serious issue. But we knew we were going to remote places so we had a first aid kit with everything: UVs, scalpels, needles. I got out my Bic Lady and shaved his head and then I put 17 stitches in."
Although Sophie absolutely adores working on camera, she has admitted globe-trotting with her man was the "best time of her life" because she didn’t have to worry about plans.
Speaking to Inside Soap magazine, she said: "When you’re in something like ‘Emmerdale’, your life is planned out, you have a diary, and every week you have a new schedule. After three years of that, I thought it would be brilliant to have no diary.
"My boyfriend Mark and I got our backpacks on and off we went. We had no plan, and it was the best time of my life."
After months gallivanting around the world, Sophie returned to the long-running soap earlier this year as troublemaker Holly Barton and looks set to be there for the foreseeable future as her alter-ego gets stuck into wreaking havoc.
