Emmerdale boss lets slip there will be a ‘socially-distanced’ murder in the Dales

‘Emmerdale’ boss John Whiston has let slip there will be a socially-distanced murder in the Dales.

The Managing Director of Continuing Drama for ITV – who also looks after ‘Coronation Street’ – revealed there is a death coming up on the ITV soap "quite soon", and admitted the crime, like the rest of the show’s filming, would have to be shot with characters keeping their two-metre distance from one another.

He said: "In terms of all of the normal stuff that goes on in soaps, people kissing each other or murdering each other, we’ll have to socially distance murders I think.

"And we did actually have one coming up in ‘Emmerdale’ quite soon."

A selection of ‘Emmerdale’ stars resumed filming last month to work on six special episodes, which sees their characters in lockdown.

And John recently admitted one of the "biggest problems" with the stars’ returning to the set has been the actors’ new DIY haircuts – as they have gone weeks without being able to go to the hairdressers due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Danny Miller – who plays Aaron Dingle – decided to shave most of his hair off, but his character Aaron Dingle was last seen on TV with longer locks.

John said: "You can see my biggest problem with Aaron’s haircut. Most of the cast, for some reason, decided to shave their heads and all the female cast decided to dye their hair, which is a problem when everyone is coming back to work. So we’ve had to put in a lot of lines taking the p**s out of his hair."
