Emmerale’s James Hooton messed up wedding scenes

James Hooton messed up his ‘Emmerdale’ wedding by trying to improvise.
The 46-year-old actor – whose character Sam Dingle will tie the knot with Lydia Hart (Karen Blick) in scenes set to air next week – has admitted he tried to add his own joke into the script with disastrous results.
He told Digital Spy: "I decided to change a line in the ceremony so Mark Charnock’s character Marlon pipes up and says something to Sam and he turns round and says something, berates him for the amount of times he’s been married and I changed it because I thought I could make it slightly funnier.
"And could I remember the line that I’d actually rewritten? I could not get it!
"It took about 20 takes to get out a simple line about ‘You’ve been married more times than Elizabeth Taylor’ sort of thing. And it probably wasn’t any funnier than the original line anyway."
James joked he’d be leaving the "writing to the writers" from now on, while Karen admitted it was a "funny" moment on set.
He said: "Every time I had to turn around and know I’d got no clue what this line is — and I’d written it.
"So yeah, I’ll leave the writing to the writers. They know what they’re doing."
The shoot was a nice release for the cast, and James suggested the audience will be glad for a "happy story" amid the usual soap drama.
He quipped: "If you’re an avid soap watcher you don’t get a lot of happy payoffs so I think it’s quite nice to have a sort of ‘aww’ moment in between all of the thefts, adultery and murder."
