Emma Watson: Criticism has ‘toughened me up’

Emma Watson says criticism has "really toughened" her up.
The ‘Beauty and the Beast’ star has spent most of her life in the spotlight and admits it has changed her as a person.
She said: "There is a level of criticism that comes with being an actress and a public figure, which I expect but once you take a stance on something like feminism, that’s a completely different ball game. It really toughened me up."
However, the 26-year-old actress doesn’t want the focus to be on her but instead on making the world better.
She told the March issue of ELLE magazine: "Let’s see what we can do to ‘move the needle’ and make a difference."
It comes after Emma recently admitted she is a "sucker" for self-help books.
She shared: "I love it. I will get really excited reading something like Ariana Huffington’s ‘The Sleep Revolution’. I am a sucker for anything that promises to change my life."
And the brunette beauty has had numerous people ask her to write a book on feminism but insists she won’t be doing something like that until she is older.
She said: "I need to see and do a bit more first. It’s not like I have been reading this material for years and I don’t have an encyclopaedic knowledge. It can be a lot of pressure sometimes, as people expect me to know so much.
"I’m no expert, and when people push me into a corner of ‘Here’s Emma Watson to lecture you on feminism’, it’s uncomfortable because I am aware I have a long way to go. I am not sure I deserve all the respect I get yet, but I’m working on it."
