Emily Middlemas voted off The X Factor

Emily Middlemas has been voted off ‘The X Factor’.
The 18-year-old hopeful was booted from the ITV show after losing the sing-off to fellow contestant Matt Terry, despite a beautiful performance of ‘Wings’.
Speaking after her exit, she said: "I’m so proud of myself to actually get to the semi-final. I want to say a massive thank you to all of the team behind this – the researchers who look after us in the house, people doing make up, Brian [Friedman] … the judges, Dermot, all of the contestants. This year’s been amazing and I’m just so happy to have been a part of it."
Whilst her mentor Simon Cowell added: "It is a competition and the three do deserve to be there [in the final]. I’m gutted for Emily because when you get this close … but it’s all about what you do with the rest of your life now. You should see this positively. You were fantastic. I’m really proud of you."
And Matt – who sang Christina Aguilera’s ‘Hurt’ in the sing off – admitted the whole experience was "terrifying".
He explained to host Dermot O’Leary: "It was terrifying. Emily was incredible. I was so nervous but now I’m so relieved!"
Following the news, Matt and his fellow finalists Saara Alto and 5 After Midnight made their way out of the studio where they hopped on their own Battle Buses. They are set to tour the country this week in a bid to secure votes ahead of next weekend’s final.
Meanwhile, the four semi-finalists kicked off the show with a group performance of ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’, continuing Saturday night’s (03.12.16) festive theme. Lady Gaga wowed with a performance of ‘Million Reasons’ whilst Zara Larsson impressed with a mash up of hit tracks ‘I Would Like’ and ‘Lush Life’.
The ‘X Factor’ continues on Saturday December 10, where the remaining three contestants – Matt, Saara and 5 After Midnight – will take to the Wembley Arena stage in a bid to be crowned this year’s X Factor champion.
