Ellie Goulding sings as her own support act

Ellie Goulding supported herself at her concert on Monday night (16.05.16) after band Years & Years had to pull out of their slot.
The 29-year-old pop star is currently on the North American leg of her ‘Delirium World Tour’ and she played an impromptu acoustic set at her show at the Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis after Years & Years frontman Olly Alexander fell ill.
Ellie took to Twitter to share the news with her fans, tweeting: "I think I’m opening for myself in St Louis #gettheguitar (sic)"
The set was well-received by the sell-out crowd as the singer’s fans got to see her perform twice.
After the gig, Ellie returned to Twitter to respond to fans who asked how it went and joked she performed the first part of her show under a new alter ego.
She tweeted: "It was a bit weird not gona lie … my alter ego is called Victoria sponge (sic)"
Years & Years – also comprised of Mikey Goldsworthy and Emre Turkmen – have cancelled all their support slots with Ellie and all their scheduled US tour dates due to Olly’s sickness.
In a post on their Twitter account on Tuesday (17.05.16), the band said: "It is with great regret and sadness that we have to cancel our remaining US shows with Ellie Goulding. It has been no secret that Olly has been unwell recently and we have been advised that he needs immediate rest to make a swift and full recovery. We are very sorry and want to say a big thank you to Ellie and her team for having us and to everyone that came to see us."
It is not yet known whether the ‘Shine’ hitmakers’ forthcoming UK dates – which kick off in London on June 11 – will still go ahead.
