Edwina Currie to star on I’m A Celeb

Edwina Currie will star on ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’.

The former Conservative minister is reported to have accepted a £110,000 offer to appear on the reality TV show despite slamming it as a "ritual humiliation" in the past.

Edwina, 68, who expressed her dislike of the ITV series when Tory MP Nadine Dorries took part in 2012, is said to have been convinced to enter the jungle by show bosses who hope she will open up about her four-year affair with former Prime Minister Sir John Major.

In November 2012, she said of Nadine’s decision to compete on the series: "This programme is about ritual humiliation. I don’t think she should be doing it. If Nadine seriously thinks they are going to allow her on to national TV on a game show like this talking about abortion, she’s got another thing coming."

Edwina is set to fly out to Australia to join the other contestants – retired footballer Jimmy Bullard, ‘The Only Way is Essex’ star Gemma Collins, rapper Tinchy Stryder, broadcaster Michael Buerk, ‘Coronation Street’ star Craig Charles, Carl Fogarty, Vicki Michelle and model Nadia Forde – a few days into the 14th series of the show which kicks off tomorrow night (16.11.14).

A show source told The Sun newspaper: "Edwina is so opinionated there will definitely be fireworks in camp.

"It is amazing that she has been convinced to do the show. She’s going to look a bit of a hypocrite now."

Along with Edwina, ‘X Factor’ reject Jake Quickenden, 26, is also reported to be joining the show a few days in.
