Eddie Redmayne checked his fiancée’s ring size while she was sleeping.
The ‘Les Miserables’ star, who is set to marry antique dealer Hannah Bagshawe in December, couldn’t find any way to measure her finger before he proposed so he was forced to wait until "the middle of the night."
The 32-year-old actor said he ended up "taking her hand, and putting her finger next to my finger" and guessed the size before buying her engagement ring.
Before carving out a career in Hollywood, the British star was scouted by a model agent while he was at university, but claims he was never successful on the catwalk.
He said: "The most success I think I had was doing a knitting magazine that was sent to grannies, but after my huge, heady days in knitting books, I left it behind."
Eddie, who also enjoys painting and playing the piano, claims his success came as a surprise to those close to him, as his father is a banker and his mother ran a relocation business.
He told Vogue magazine: "I come from a totally unmusical, untheatrical family.
"What I’ve always loved is variety. There’s this wonderful phrase in ‘My Week with Marilyn’ where Kenneth Branagh, playing Laurence Olivier, turns to my character and says, ‘Glad, you ran away to the circus?’"
