Ed Sheeran has topped the Apple Music and iTunes charts with the most popular album and song of 2017.
The ‘Shape of You’ hitmaker has enjoyed an incredibly successful year, and his single has been ranked at number one on the streaming and download music service.
His latest record ‘Divide’ has also proven popular, finishing at the top of the year end list as the Top Album of 2017, and the singer songwriter is grateful for those who have supported him.
He said: "Really happy everyone has enjoyed the album this year, thanks to all who streamed and downloaded. Lots of Love, Ed."
Soulful Rag’n’Bone Man is in great spirits as his debut LP ‘Human’ finished behind Ed in second place for the year.
He said: "It’s been a crazy couple years for me. There’s parts of what I do that drive me completely mental, but 99.9% of the time it’s fantastic! I love music & I’m grateful. Thanks for all the support Apple Music and iTunes!"
It follows news that Ed has also topped Spotify’s list of most-streamed artists for 2017.
The ‘Castle on the Hill’ star topped the list of artists on the streaming service, thanks to the release of ‘Divide’.
‘Shape of You’ was the top track streamed in both the UK and globally with 1.4 billion streams whilst ‘Divide’ was the most streamed album at 3.1 billion streams.
Ed’s ‘Castle on the Hill’ and ‘Galway Girl’ also made the top five most streamed tracks in the UK as well as Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber’s ‘Despacito’ and French Montana’s ‘Unforgettable’.
And on the top streamed albums, Ed’s previous release ‘X’ also sat at fifth position in the top five alongside Drake’s ‘More Life’, The Weeknd’s ‘Starboy’ and grime star Stormzy’s ‘Gang Signs & Prayer’.
Stefan Blom, Spotify’s Chief Content Officer, said: "Ed Sheeran absolutely dominated this year with the release of his record-breaking album, Divide. There is no doubt that 2017 was The Year of Ed Sheeran, and we are thrilled that so many millions of music fans have discovered, listened to, and shared his music on Spotify. Congratulations to Ed on an amazing achievement."
