EastEnders: Secrets from the Square to stay on screen for longer run

‘EastEnders: Secrets from the Square’ looks set to remain on screen for a longer run.

The BBC One soap’s spin-off show was drafted onto our screens in June as the main programme – which is returning on September 7th – went off air after running out of episodes due to the coronavirus pandemic, and now host Stacey Dooley has revealed the behind-the-scenes series could be on until 2022.

Speaking to Ross Kemp – who played Grant Mitchell on the soap – she is quoted by The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre TV column as saying: "I’ve been doing a gig on TV with ‘EastEnders’ with all the actors. It’s been lovely.

"It’s on every week until 2022, so I can only apologise."

The spin-off show has seen Stacey interview a number of Walford favourites, from Letitia Dean (Sharon Mitchell) to Adam Woodyatt (Ian Beale), and a number of Albert Square secrets have been spilled on the series.

In July, it was revealed on the programme that Jessie Wallace’s character Kat Moon has returned to Walford in time to spend lockdown with boyfriend Kush Kazemi, who has been forgiven by Jean Slater (Gillian Wright) after he accidentally gave her an overdose of prescription pills.

Davood Ghadami – who plays the market trader – said: "The last thing we saw was him having a bit of difficulty with Jean and trying to sort it out but going about it the wrong way.

"But he’s forgiven by Jean and let back into 31, so he’s in 31 with all the kids, with Jean, with Mo, with Shirley … and we also have Kat back, so they actually spend lockdown together."

Jessie was temporarily written out of the BBC One soap earlier this year following an alleged on-set incident, and her return was delayed further after coronavirus caused filming to be paused from late March.

The BBC recently confirmed ‘EastEnders’ will return at 8pm on September 7th and will continue four nights a week.
