EastEnders plan shock disaster storyline

‘EastEnders’ will be struck by a major disaster next week.
A horrific event is set to cause havoc in Walford and could see a popular character killed off in Albert Square, although the BBC One soap’s bosses are keeping details under wraps.
The forthcoming episode starts off with a disruption on the market as stall owners, including Martin Fowler [James Bye], find out about plans for their businesses to be relocated away from the square.
However, the chaos soon unfolds as a life and death storyline unravels, which sees residents come together to save one and other, with one person potentially meeting their grizzly end amongst the drama.
There are to be three episodes based on the traumatic event, which is to take the attention away from the current story surrounding Phil Mitchell [Steve McFadden] and Denise Fox’s [Diane Parish] son and his ongoing battle to save their newborn child from being adopted.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson has addressed the recent comments by viewers about errors and continuity issues, and has explained that sometimes it’s impossible for continuous stories to air on the exact day they take place.
They told Digital Spy: "As a continuing drama, it’s not uncommon for events to be moved in order to tie in with other storylines.
"Next week sees disaster strike in Walford, and these episodes all take place over one day, so in order for events to be played out this way, other moments need to be moved slightly for story purposes."
It will be the second big disaster to hit the square in a month after the deaths of Roxy [Rita Simmons] and Ronnie Mitchell [Samantha Womack], who drowned on New Year’s Day (31.01.17).
‘EastEnders’ fans can see the scenes kick off on Monday’s (23.01.17) episode on BBC One at 8pm.
