EastEnders make royal baby nod

‘EastEnders’ made a nod to Prince Harry and Duchess Sussex’s newborn child last night (09.05.19) – to coincide with Louise Mitchell’s pregnancy plot.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor into the world on Monday (06.05.19), and the BBC One soap featured a special last-minute scene in which Honey Mitchell (Emma Barton) discussed "a baby", leaving Louise (Tilly Keeper) fearing her own pregnancy news had been revealed.
Speaking from behind The Minute Mart counter, Honey said: "That is such great news about the baby, and the name is perfect, so natural and formal. Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor."
Louise then walked off and Tiffany Butcher (Maisie Smith) appeared at the counter.
The teen said: "I don’t get the big deal. Woman has baby. Hold the front page."
The soap also referred to Brexit, and Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur’s progress to the Champions League final this week.
Honey said: "Better than Brexit."
Tiff replied: "They weren’t going to call him Brexit."
Ignoring her quip, Honey continued: "Or people talking about Liverpool or Tottenham battling it out to be the league of champions.
"This is a royal baby. He is … something in line to the throne.
"This little Archie could soon one day be our king."
Tiff replied: "King Archie, it does actually have a ring to it."
Without Honey realising, Tiff left the shop and Louise returned to the counter.
A waffling Honey then stopped herself from gushing over the royal baby and said: "Sorry, I just can’t help it. I just love babies. Don’t you?"
But a horrified Louise, who just minutes earlier had found out she was pregnant with lover Keanu Taylor’s (Danny Walters) baby, couldn’t respond.
It’s not the first time ‘EastEnders’ have added a last-minute scene to recognise current events.
In July, character Mel Owen (Tamzin Outhwaite) blamed England’s World Cup semi-final defeat to Croatia on there being "too many Tottenham players" in the side.
Speaking to her son Hunter Owen (Charlie Winter), she said: "He should’ve taken off Alli, not Sterling. Far too many Tottenham players."
And just days before the game, Queen Vic landlord Mick Carter – played by Danny Dyer – predicted England would win the game, describing Croatia’s superstar midfielder Luka Modric as a "mug".
He said: "I tell you what we want to do.
"Stick someone on Modric early doors. He gets more space than NASA that little mug.
"Then we wait for a corner and get Harry Maguire’s head on it and boom, right in the net.
"Tata Croatia. We get in that final and we’ll win it. I’ve already told you it’s coming home haven’t I?"
