Earl and Countess of Wessex visit Isle of Wight

The Earl and Countess of Wessex will visit the Isle of Wight next week.

The royal couple will travel to the island next Thursday (28.03.14) and Friday (29.03.14), where they will attend several engagements, both solo and together, which support different causes and organisations.

Prince Edward, 50, will visit the Brading Roman Villa on Thursday, before going on to see Shanklin Youth and Community Club, where he’ll meet with volunteers and present Suzanne Whitewood MBE with an award.

Meanwhile, Sophie, 49, will visit the eco-fashion company Rapanui, where she’ll discuss the company’s future and speak with their apprentices.

She will then go on to see the local primary school Gatten and Lake, before going on to visit the Isle of Wight Foodbank.

Friday will see the couple rejoin forces to attend St Mildred’s Church, before visiting the Queensgate Foundation Primary School, where they’ll watch music and cookery lessons and unveil a commemorative plaque to mark their visit.

The pair will then stop off at the Isle retreat of Queen Victoria, where they’ll officially open a £1.65 million project, Childhood at Osborne.

Major General Martin White told the Island Echo newspaper: "The visit is a wonderful opportunity to highlight the valuable work of organisations and volunteers who contribute so much to Island life. We are very much looking forward to welcoming the Earl and Countess of Wessex back to the Isle of Wight."
