Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford hit back at social distancing complaints

Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford have hit back at viewers complaining about how close they sit on TV.
The ‘This Morning’ co-stars and married couple – who present the ITV daytime show together every Friday – have responded to concerned viewers wondering why they aren’t social distancing on air, and for the second week in a row the pair clarified the situation.
Speaking on Friday (03.04.20), Eamonn, 60, said: "We are here on the advice of the government, medical guidelines and ITV, which say as we live together and share the same house, we can and should actually sit together.
"There is absolutely no problem with that. So really, you’re just sort of wasting your time complaining, those of you that do.
"But most people sort of accept that and realise that’s what the condition is."
Ruth, also 60, reiterated that they are "fine" to sit next to each other on air because they live together, whereas friends Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield – who co-host the show from Mondays to Thursdays – have to be further apart.
She added: "I think most people understand that. You can go out for your walk with members of your household.
"You just can’t mix with other households. So we live together, sleep together, eat together – so this is fine."
Eamonn admitted some people working from home amid the ongoing health crisis might not be aware of their relationship, and said he would remind viewers throughout the episode.
He teased: "To all you new viewers who are working from home for the first time and have us on in the background – we’re married.
"We will remind you of that a few times throughout the programme."
