Eagles guitarist Glenn Frey dies

Eagles guitarist Glenn Frey has died aged 67.

Glenn, who was also a founding member of the American rock band, lost his life in New York after battling against various intestinal issues.

According to TMZ.com, Glenn had been suffering from illnesses including acute ulcerative colitis, pneumonia and rheumatoid arthritis, with the cause of death believed to be due to complications surrounding the health problems.

In a statement on the band’s website, his family and bandmates wrote: "Words can neither describe our sorrow, nor our love and respect for all that he has given to us."

TMZ reports that Glenn had surgery in November and had been recovering fairly well until his condition took a turn for the worse in recent days.

The Eagles are famous for tracks including ‘Hotel California’ and Desperado’, which Glenn co-wrote with Don Henley, and ‘Take It Easy’ and ‘Tequila Sunrise’.

The band took home six Grammy awards during their time together, before they split in 1980.

Following the end of the Eagles, Glenn continued to have a successful career as a solo singer, with his most famous offerings being ‘The Heat Is On’ and ‘You Belong to the City’.

The Eagles had been due to reunite to perform at the Kennedy Center Honors last month but pulled out due to Glenn’s ill health.
