Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attend St Patrick’s day parade

Britain’s Prince William and Duchess Catherine are to make their first joint appearance of the year today (17.03.14).

The royal couple, who returned from the Maldives last week, will attend the annual St Patrick’s day parade at Mons Barracks in Aldershot, Hampshire, South East England this afternoon.

The pair – who have eight-month-old son Prince George together – will join the first Battalion Irish Guards for the third year running since Prince William was appointed Colonel of the regiment in 2011.

During the parade, Catherine, 32, will present officers and warrant officers with Shamrocks, the symbol of Ireland, which is a duty traditionally performed by the wife of a senior officer in the regiment.

William will be kitted out in the officer’s frock coat of the Irish Guards, but it is not yet known what Catherine will wear.

The Duke and Duchess – who are known as the Baron and Baroness Carrickfergus in Ireland – will meet members of the regiment after the parade and then pose for photographs, before visiting the cookhouse and stopping for a bite to eat in the Officers’ Mess.

Meanwhile, the duo haven’t been seen together officially since December when they attended the traditional church service at Sandringham on Christmas Day (25.12.13) with the rest of the royal family.
