Duchess of Cornwall’s Patronage reception

Britain’s Duchess of Cornwall will become the Patron of the Medical Detection Dogs charity today (11.03.14).

Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall – who is the Prince of Wales’ second wife – has given the organisation the royal stamp of approval and will formally commence her Patronage at a reception at St James’s Palace in London this afternoon (11.03.14).

Her husband, Prince Charles, will also attend the ceremony to show his support for the cause, which is to train dogs in the detection and recognition of human disease.

Speaking about the royal appointment, Dr. Claire Guest of the Medical Detection Dogs organisation told the Milton Keynes Citizen newspaper: "Her support will be invaluable for a ground-breaking and innovative charity such as ours, to promote the work we do, supporting those with life threatening health conditions and advancing cancer detection work through odour.

"Her appointment will be warmly welcomed by our staff and volunteers and I hope that Her Royal Highness will find her involvement with us extremely rewarding."

The Duchess is also involved in a number of other charities, mainly associated with health, including the National Osteoporosis Society for which she has been the President since 2001 and Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres for which she is also President.
